H.P. Lovecraft inspired by Ubermonster H.P. Lovecraft inspired by Ubermonster
A creature I did for an indie film called the Nightkind
Process is a mix of sketching-Z-brush--and photo-manipulation. This is a wip and needs a lot of cleaning up :) . But it's enough for what it was used for.
Here is a link to my friends indiegogo page and an attempt to get crowd funding.Unfortunately we did not get the goal. Maybe we will try again.

I remember reading a book called of all strange tittles "Do Not Buy This Book". It was a how to text on different ways to fund film projects and such. One of the things it mentioned was that as long as the food was good many aspiring artists, actors and other people new to this sort of thing will work for little or even nothing in some cases. George Romaro made his "Night Of The Living Dead" with very little money. He simply bought several cans of film hired a few actors whom he paid next to nothing (extras literally got nothing.) and borrowed a house to use as a set.

I like this photorealistic style. Very cool. How long does it take, to make such a painting/photo-manipulated thing or whatever...? :)

It did not take too long  coz since I was doing this for "friend price", I had to make sure it did not take too much of my time... but it was also fun and I loved doing creatures.. so I would say it took me about 5 maybe 6 hours broken down in 2 days... I dont remember really.. but I know that it took me about 2 - 3 hours to model it coz during this time I told myself that I need to get better with my z-brush. And another 3 hours for adding photo textures, within which I took about an hour to look for the textures I need. I did do a sketch before the whole process started and read the passage from the book... took a little nap so I can dream about it lol and then start drawing... sooo maybe it took me 10 hours total ... it's true I like to nap in between coz maybe my nightmares can help me design something cool!

Thanks Arty,  I think its is just able to leap and glide awkwardly. It's still developing to one that can fly.

This caught my eye since I've been reading a lot of Lovecraft lately.  The funny thing is (at least as far as I've read, in only a few cases (like The Lurking Fear or The Call of Cthulhu) does he describe his monsters in any great detail.  In most of the stories I've read, he gives hints or indications, but leaves the form of the monster largely up to the reader's imagination.

Still, I can totally see this as one of the eldritch horrors that haunts the dark.  It's certainly got an otherworldly look about it. :)
